There is no doubt that breakfast is the most important meal of your day. Eating a well-balanced, healthy breakfast will get your day started right so that you'll have the energy and brain-power to handle anything that comes your way.
Breakfast also gets your metabolism kick-started in the morning and studies have shown that breakfast-eaters have an easier time losing weight and maintaining their weight loss than those who skip breakfast.
Your breakfast should contain a combination of healthy carbs and protein. Here are some of our favorite breakfasts:
whole grain cereal +milk (soy or dairy)
whole grain toast + peanut butter
egg white vegetable omelet+ whole grain toast
oatmeal + raw walnuts or sunflower seeds
cottage cheese with fruit
yogurt + slivered almonds + fruit
Now it's your turn. Tell us what YOU like to eat for breakfast.
I love to make a super simple, super low calorie breakfast by cooking a half a diced onion with a cup of frozen spinach (with just a little water, no need for oil) in a pre-seasoned cast iron pan. Once the frozen spinach has just thawed I pour a cup of egg whites (I get little containers of organic egg whites from Fresh and Easy) and one ounce of grated soy cheese over the spinach and onions. I put the lid on the pan and let this cook over low-medium heat for about 4-5 minutes. When you take the lid off, it's a gorgeous souffle-like egg puff. It makes two HUGE servings at 160 calories each! Add a slice of toast to this, and it's a delish and filling breakfast for about 240 calories.
ReplyDeleteMy other favorites are yogurt, berries and a tablespoon of chopped nuts or granola, or fruit with toast and cashew butter (and sometimes a bit of all-fruit jam).

that is a good recipe, Kelly!
ReplyDeletei like to sautee fresh veggies - zucchini, onions, baby tomatoes w/egg whites and eat with salsa on top.
Also good is a whole grain english muffin w/unsalted raw almond butter and low sugar fruit spread.
trader joe's cereal bars (i like to mix it up between granola or strawberry). Usually runs around 110-150 calories (and if I'm craving a snack later in the day, I'll have another).
