RECIPE: Whole Wheat Penne Pasta with Turkey

This simple pasta dish is customizable to your taste. Feel free to experiment with adding different veggies.

Ingredients:
  • 1 pound whole wheat penne pasta
  • ½ pound ground turkey meat
  • Half an onion, sliced
  • Olive oil
  • Trader Joe’s No-Salt Added Marinara Sauce
  • Pepper and any other sodium-free seasonings (basil, oregano, marjoram, thyme are all good choices)
  • Optional: Add any veggies of your choice. Mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli, red peppers, bok choy, among others, all work well. 
Instructions:
  • Cook pasta according to directions on package. Drain, and set aside.
  • In a sauté pan over high heat, add 2 tablespoons olive oil. 
  • Season turkey with black pepper and any herbs or spices of your choice. 
  • Add turkey to the pan and sauté, breaking up any large lumps, until golden brown. Remove meat from pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon olive oil. 
  • Sauté sliced onions until translucent. Add any other optional veggies and cook until just tender.
  • Add turkey to the veggies and stir well. Then add the cooked pasta and just enough Marinara sauce to lightly coat all the ingredients and toss for 5-7 minutes over low to medium heat.  
  • Serve and enjoy!
