WEIGHT LOSS FORUM: Limiting Sugar

Between 1970 and 2005, our intake of added sugars jumped 20%. The average American now consumes 350-475 empty calories from added sugars each day! The American Heart Association recommends that we limit our intake of added sugars to 100 calories per day for women and 150 calories per day for men.

How challenging or easy is it for YOU to limit your sugar intake? What obstacles are you dealing with? What strategies do you use to limit your sugar intake?

  1. You have some great concepts and ideas.

Losing 1 in 10 is a great and simple idea.

    Tip? Keep things simple.

    Idea? Never quit

I liked the lady laying on her back looking up at the scale.

    Very funny.

  2. AAY BootCamp sounds just like what I want and need. Can I still participate in a beneficial program even though it is difficult for me to get back up from the floor without assistance of some sort?

  3. Yes, definitely! No problem. We have several members with the same issue. There are a few options when we go down to the floor, depending on what you feel comfortable with:

    1. Use a chair: There are plenty of chairs at our workout space. Some of our members put a chair next to their mat to use as support when they go down & get up from the floor.

    2. We (Narina, Elaine and our assistants) can help you get up & down. We do it for others and it is not a problem at all.

    3. We can also give you alternative exercises if you prefer not to go down to the floor at all.

Our program really is all about YOU! We will do whatever we can to accommodate you so that you can work toward your fitness goals in a safe & supportive environment. Call us if you want to discuss this issue further or if you'd like to try out a complimentary class: 818-437-5523

  4. Reading labels....sugar can be added to so many foods. Try to be more selective about the products we choose to purchase and consume.

  5. Great points, Jeanne! Yes, read your food labels! You'll be surprised by how much sugar is added to various products. And, by the way, whether it says sugar, high fructose corn syrup, evaporated cane juice, brown rice syrup, agave syrup or honey, it's all added sugar.
